Pay Traffic Fines in East Baton Rouge Parish

Online payment is available for citations issued by the EBR Sheriff's Office, Louisiana State Police, and LSU Police. The rule is: your court date must be more than 48 hours away. The clerk's site says: "If your court date has not passed, and your court date is more than 48 hours away, you can now pay your fine online." If your court date has passed or is within 48 hours, online payment is not an option.

You can also pay by mail using a money order only, made payable to EBRSO. Mail to P.O. Box 3202, Baton Rouge, LA 70821. Do not send personal checks. Cash, money order, or debit/credit cards (Visa and MasterCard only, no American Express or Discover) are accepted in person. Personal checks are not accepted in person either.

Note: paying your fine is treated as a guilty plea in Louisiana. If you want to dispute the citation, do not pay. Show up on your court date and request a hearing instead.

Online Payment Available for EBR Sheriff, LSP, and LSU Police citations only (48+ hours before court date)
Mail Payment Money order only, payable to EBRSO, P.O. Box 3202, Baton Rouge, LA 70821
In Person Cash, money order, Visa/Mastercard (no AmEx, Discover, or personal checks)

Traffic Fine Schedule

East Baton Rouge Parish publishes its traffic fine schedule for common violations. These are the base fines plus court costs. Speeding 1-10 mph over the limit: $45 base fine plus $152.75 in court costs. Speeding 11-20 mph over: $55 plus $152.75. Speeding 21-30 mph over: $65 plus $152.75. Speeding 31 or more mph over the limit: $75 plus $152.75. So even a minor speeding ticket will cost over $197 total when you factor in court costs.

Wireless device violations carry a first-offense fine of $100 plus $152.75 in court costs. A second offense or a violation in a school zone costs $250 plus $152.75. Seat belt violations for adults are $50. Child restraint violations are $100 for the first offense and $250 for a second offense. These fines are in addition to any points that may be added to your driving record.

Bench Warrants in East Baton Rouge

If you missed a court date in East Baton Rouge Parish, a bench warrant was likely issued. Bench warrants in EBR cannot be resolved online or by phone. The clerk's policy is clear on this. You must go to the Traffic Office on the 2nd floor of the Courthouse to deal with a warrant. You can get up to two extensions for payment if you need more time, but you have to show up in person to request them.

Each bench warrant is tied to one specific ticket. Paying off one warrant does not clear others. The clerk's own language on this: "Each bench warrant is attached to a particular traffic ticket. The recalling of a warrant for one traffic ticket will have no effect on a warrant outstanding for another traffic ticket." So if you have multiple tickets with outstanding warrants, each one needs to be handled separately.

Ignoring a bench warrant can lead to arrest, license suspension, and additional contempt charges. Do not wait on this. Go to the courthouse as soon as you can and get the warrant recalled. It is a much worse situation if a warrant leads to an arrest on an unrelated traffic stop.
